On the 3rd of August 2010 Virgin Blue began flying a new route from Sydney to Ayers Rock (also referred to by it’s indigenous name, Uluru).  This is great news for people wishing to travel there, as Uluru is hard to reach and flying is really the only recommended option for traveling to the region from anywhere on the East Coast of Australia.  Qantas has had a monopoly on the route for many years, and with only one airline flying to Uluru in the past there was no demand for competition in flight prices.  But we expect this to change now that Virgin Blue is operating a daily service to the area, with connections from all other major cities.

This is great news for Australian’s wishing to see one of their county’s most famous landmarks, and also budget travelers like us! TravAddict recommends checking out Intrepid Travel for adventure tours in the region.
